Canmore had made preparations for river flooding after waterways overflowed in 2012, but the deluge of 2013 was something else altogether.
“Debris floods differ in that the volume you can expect is significantly higher than you would get from a typical analysis of river flooding,” he said. “The debris is a compounding factor because it will block your culverts and deposit in your channel, causing erosion.”

“Stone Creek, a tiny creek that can be dry for decades at a time, caused millions of dollars of damage to condo property up in Silvertip,” he said, “We had damage from Three Sisters Creek, creeks named X, Y, and Z.
