Days before bowing out of the Conservative nomination race in Richmond Hill, Ont., one prospective candidate said he was concerned about the risk of foreign interference during the next federal election, particularly during nomination contests. That worry, according to Kaveh Shahrooz, seemingly came to bear, as eight days after announcing his candidacy, Shahrooz left the race, citing, in part, allegations of “significant foreign interference.
“No one else has the legitimacy or authority to be their voice or speak on their behalf, no matter how big their social media accounts may be or how much they speak in the media or at conferences,” she wrote. Ghamari, also an active critic of the Iranian government, posted on social media that “Kaveh Shahrooz isn’t the first Iranian-Canadian who has reached out to me asking for advice on how to win a CPC nomination to join party. And he won’t be the last.
