Seventeen plasma donations every week help Hayley continue to do the things she loves, despite suffering from a life-threatening immune deficiency.

To a passersby, Hayley Teasdale looks like a normal 27-year-old, but she has no immune system and relies on life-saving plasma donations to stay healthy.Ms Teasdale has Common Variable Immune Deficiency and needs the equivalent of 17 plasma donations a week to maintain her immunity to common bugs and germs.But what is plasma and how does it help?When plasma is donated, it is used in providing 18 life-giving treatments for conditions such as serious burns, cancer and a range of diseases.

"When you encounter a germ or bacteria, you produce some kind of response and that response is in your plasma," Ms Teasdale said. "So when I receive my product we actually combine over 1,000 different donations so I'm receiving everything everyone has encountered and their responses to that.But Ms Teasdale explained that did not make her"a superhuman".
