Canadiens Sign Logan Mailloux to Entry-Level Contract
The Montreal Canadiens have signed defensive prospect Logan Mailloux to a three-year entry-level contract.
Drafted 31st overall in 2021, he played in 12 games with the London Knights last year, tallying nine points. Mailloux missed Montreal’s training camp and the start of the OHL season while recovering from shoulder surgery. Mailloux injured his shoulder in a fight on March 6, putting a premature end to the season.
Mailloux is one of Montreal’s better defensive prospects but has only played in 31 games over the past two seasons. During the 2020-21 season while in Sweden, Mailloux received a fine of roughly $1,640 USD for taking photos of a young woman while engaged in a sexual act without her permission. Mailloux shared the pictures with teammates.Mailloux renounced himself from the draft that year, but the Canadiens still elected to take him in the first round. The OHL suspended Mailloux for the first half of the 2021-22 OHL season.
“This is a decision that we have thought through carefully. Having Logan around members of our team and hockey operations staff for a good part of the summer allowed us to gain a greater appreciation of Logan Mailloux the person,” GM Kent Hughes said in a press release. “He has an opportunity to affect positive change and we will work to support him in any effort towards that goal. Logan recognizes the impact of his gesture and of course, the process continues.
