Brother of Wang Bingzhang, who has been jailed for 17 years, teams with activist Sheng Xue in bid to raise international awareness

He has been held in quasi-solitary confinement, barred from speaking with other inmates. He has suffered strokes, severe depression and erratic moods, his family said. Ms. Sheng, who describes herself as an old friend of the imprisoned pro-democracy campaigner, said that at the request of Mr. Wang’s family, she asked the Dalai Lama to be his nominator during her recent trip to India.

“One common thing about these two people is that they didn’t receive consistent long-term attention from the outside world,” Ms. Shen noted.
