Canadians still favour hockey — but maybe not for long, as basketball and soccer gain popularity

While hockey remains the most popular among 18 to 24 year olds at 21.8 per cent, it\u0027s followed closely by basketball, at 17.6 per cent.

Still, among sports fans, no other sport makes it into the double digits across the country. Nearly eight per cent follow football, and soccer, nearly seven per cent follow baseball, and nearly six per cent follow basketball. Others, such as tennis, car racing, cricket and curling, have small percentages.

Thirteen per cent of immigrants follow hockey most closely, but 20.8 per cent of new Canadians follow soccer most closely, and 10 per cent follow basketball. “ still resonates with 18 to 24.
