Two Canadian Forces vehicles and their crews drove into the midst of a Montreal protest earlier this week against Israel’s bombing in Gaza, prompting police to eventually have to escort the military convoy through the demonstration.Thursday shows a Canadian Forces Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle and a military truck trying to move down a street in the midst of the demonstration in downtown Montreal.National Defence spokesman Andrew McKelvey said the incident happened on Oct.

Montreal police had to escort the military vehicles and their crews out of the demonstration, he added. The vehicles were making a routine trip to allow members of The Royal Canadian Hussars regiment, notably its drivers, to train and ensure the maintenance of fleet skills, McKelvey said. “This trip occurs on a weekly basis, was previously planned, and had nothing to do with the demonstration,” he added.

McKelvey noted that the military had released a public service announcement about the training on Sept. 27. That announcement noted that every Tuesday evening from October to April 2024 the vehicles would be taking a number of various routes throughout Montreal. The announcement, however, does not go into detail about which route would be taken on which evening.
