Renowned Filipino journalist Rhea Santos-De Guzman visited the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The occasion featured the '75 Faces of Migration' project, showcasing Santos-De Guzman's journey as a migrant and highlighting the contributions of Filipino-Canadians.
The Embassy of Canada in the Philippines welcomed renowned journalist and anchor Rhea Santos-De Guzman during her visit on Dec. 23. The occasion marked the culmination of the '75 Faces of Migration ' project, commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and the Philippines .As part of the project, Santos-De Guzman shared her inspiring journey as a migrant.
Since relocating to Canada in 2019 with her family as an international student, she has made significant strides in her broadcast journalism career. 'What makes this occasion unforgettable was sharing this proud moment with my loved ones. One of the questions asked during the fireside chat was what prepared me to my new life in Canada. It was my chance to say thank you to my dad and mom who raised me as a fighter and a person of faith,' Santos-De Guzman wrote in an Instagram post. 'To those starting over or planning to take a leap of faith in life (whatever your definition of change is) this 2025, it is not easy. Tears are part of the journey. But those tears are a testament of courage and grit. Change will make you stronger and it may lead you where you are meant to be. There are no guarantees in our careers....in life. It's how we handle it that makes the difference,' she added. During her visit, the embassy also unveiled a portrait of her by artist Gio Sampayan, which will be incorporated into a mural commemorating 75 years of bilateral relations between the two nations. The 75 Faces of Migration initiative showcases the resilience and contributions of Filipino-Canadians and newcomers, highlighting their impact on Canada's cultural and social fabric through active participation in diverse fields. Santos-De Guzman was born in San Mateo, Rizal and stayed most of her childhood in Marikina. She is known for co-anchoring morning show 'Unang Hirit' and hosting several news and public affairs programs including 'Reporter's Notebook' and 'Tunay na Buhay
