The project was a requirement for Haq's physics course, the Grade 11 student chose something in the biochemistry field.“One of the things I came across in my research is that unlike non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen, Tylenol is much easier to overdose on and acetaminophen can be found in so many different drugs,” said Haq.“Sometimes people don't realize they're taking it — and it's very easy to overdo it with acetaminophen.
“I decided that I would use that as a basis for my topic, considering that I had personal experience. So I did a comparative study between the two primary methods of treatment for Tylenol overdose.”When presenting their project, Haq speaks about having experienced a non-accidental acetaminophen overdose. Haq said they have been treated with both activated charcoal and NAC while in hospital.
“Both are very safe and very effective treatments,” Haq said."The individual circumstances of a presenting patient play a very big factor in what treatment a doctor or a medical professional decides to give them."
