The Brad Gushue\u002Drink broke open a tight game against Turkey by scoring four in the fifth end en route to a 9\u002D5 victory.
Whatever shakes down from here, including Canada’s final round robin game against the Niklas-Edin skipped Swedish squad late Friday night, the home team will need to win a qualifying game Saturday afternoon to reach the semifinals. Before the Friday afternoon draw, Switzerland topped the standings with a 10-1 record, followed by Sweden at 9-1 and Norway and Scotland at 8-2. Canada is at 8-3. Italy advanced to the playoffs Friday morning, knocking off Japan 12-5 to improve its record to 7-4.
“If we’re not playing for the hammer then I think it’s an opportunity for us to really kind of gear up for the weekend and work on some of the technical issues that we’re seeing out there,” said Gushue. “But obviously, if we’re playing for hammer, then it’s 100 per cent all in trying to try and win that game .”
The schedule has been rough for Canada for the past few days — morning and night draws on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday — but Gushue says he will find time to chill during the afternoon to become a spectator of another sport. “I want to go back and get a good nap, but it’s so hard when you know golf is on. I set the alarm , so I didn’t nap too long so I could at least watch some of the golf. I look forward to The Masters every year.”
