“I’m really proud of the group, for what they’ve come through and to have to bounce back,” said Canada head coach Bev Priestman. “We said today, we have to keep climbing and moving forward, and we did that. In my time, we haven’t had a two-goal win against Brazil, so to keep a clean sheet and to score two set-play goals and have some young players on the pitch that I thought did outstanding; overall I’m really pleased and it was nice to see the group smile, a win really helps.
Prior to the goal, Adriana Leon had a great opportunity to get Canada on the board, but Lorena made an outstanding save at the near post, knocking a shot away with her left arm. Canada started in a 4-3-3 formation against Brazil with Janine Beckie, Adriana Leon and Ashley Lawrence as the striking trio. Simi Awujo, Julia Grosso and Fleming made up the midfield, while Gilles and Kadeisha Buchanan started at centre back with Allysha Chapman and Jade Rose on either side.
“His distribution; her ability to play the ball short and long, and the world-class saves, it’s a pleasure to have someone of that quality.”
