Alberta snapped Calgary’s 13-game win streak last year in the Canada West bronze-medal game by converting a walk-off penalty goal in injury time for a 15-14 win. Calgary still holds a 12-5 edge all-time against Alberta in conference play.Head coach Simon Chi enters his 14th season leading the Dinos. Chi has led the Dinos to three Canada West championships and boasts a 38-17-1 record in conference play with the program.
For the first time since 2017, the Dinos have a new goalkeeper. Jake Ruschkowski graduated following last season after five excellent campaigns on the pitch. Liam Hunter got the start on Sunday, making five saves in the opener. The Dinos are coming off a 2022 campaign that saw them claim Canada West bronze and earn a trip to nationals — the fourth time in the last seven seasons the Scarlet & Gold have qualified for the U SPORTS championship.
