Campfires banned across B.C. except Haida Gwaii

Emergency Minister Bowinn Ma announced the ban Monday.

“I urge everyone do their part,” she said. “Human-caused wildfires are completely preventable and divert critical resources away from lightning-caused fires.”Cliff Chapman, director of provincial operations for British Columbia Wildfire Service, said B.C. currently lacks the capacity to respond to human-caused fires, including smaller ones.

“We have seen a significant lightning event go through this province for the last three days and we will see more lightning today….we are tight on resources to be candid.”
