A man who stabbed his mother dozens of times in their Perth home, with some of the attack taking place in front of paramedics, is found guilty of her murder.
Callum Cameron has been found guilty of murdering his mother Carol Ann in a stabbing attack in their Perth home.
He faced a judge-alone trial in the WA Supreme Court in March after pleading not guilty to Ms Cameron's murder, telling the court he was instead guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter.The trial heard Ms Cameron, 63, made a triple-0 call in the early hours of the morning, telling the operator her son was "barely awake" but not violent.
Ambulance officer John Bowring told the court he lost sight of the pair, but he heard Cameron becoming more agitated towards his mother.Mr Bowring told the court he could hear stabbing noises before Ms Cameron came back into his line of sight, crawling and clawing on the floor as the attack continued.The trial heard police found Cameron sitting on a couch with blood on his hands, looking "remarkably calm".The court heard officers were forced to restrain Cameron with a taser.
Ms Prince said Cameron had been intoxicated to such an extent as to not remember the attack, and that he would not have had the capacity to form any "murderous intent".In delivering his verdict on Friday, Justice Joseph McGrath rejected Cameron's argument of defence."This was not a spontaneous act of picking up a knife and stabbing the victim once."
