What kind of home does the 'benchmark price' buy in Canadian cities? yyc

“Edmonton’s benchmark, in contrast, has always been lower by about 20 per cent or more than Calgary’s,” says Corinne Lyall, broker/owner with Royal LePage Benchmark in Calgary.

As well, Calgary’s median income is higher due to its larger share of corporate headquarters, particularly for oil and gas companies. Still, incomes are similar. Alberta government statistics show the median household income in Edmonton was about $112,000 in 2020, the latest data available. In Calgary, the median income was about $118,000.
