Administration is proposing a change to bylaws, as well as the creation of an enforcement team, consisting of eight peace officers and one sergeant. The team would be all new positions, rather than drawing from existing bylaw officers.Article content
Administration told council that fine revenue from the program is expected to cover some of the costs, however Coun. Sonya Sharp said she had concerns about the lack of information about ongoing costs.The city’s chief bylaw officer Ryan Pleckaitis explained the team could augment traffic enforcement work that CPS already does.
Administration is proposing using Edmonton as a model, but allowing its program to be tested in court before fully following their lead.
