Duehr had seven goals in his rookie season with the Flames.
The extension has an average annual value of $825,000 and is a one-way deal. This contract replaces the two-year, $827,500 AAV deal that the forward signed as an NCAA free agent while at Minnesota St University in 2021 that originally made him a member of the Flames organization.
He was set to become a restricted free agent this summer where he would have had a qualifying offer for one-year and $787,500. In addition, the qualifying offer would have been a two-way deal compared to the one-way extension he signed. This new contract avoids that scenario.Duehr just wrapped up his rookie season with the Flames, scoring seven goals and adding four assists for 11 points across 27 games.
This season, he also appeared in 41 games with the Calgary Wranglers — the Flames’ AHL affiliate team — and was a key contributor. Despite appearing in just over half of the team’s games, he still finished the year as the seventh leading goal-scorer with 15 goals. Duehr holds the honor of being the first ever person born in the state of South Dakota to score an NHL goal. He accomplished this feat on Jan. 12 of this year when he beat St. Louis Blues’ goalie Thomas Greiss with a perfectly placed shot on an odd-man rush.
At 6’2 and 210 pounds, Duehr has the size that, when paired with his skating ability, results in him being a great forechecker. He fit in really well as an energy forward in the Flames’ depth chart and will look to compete for bottom-six minutes behind Tyler Toffoli and Blake Coleman as a right-winger next season.
