Restaurants, bars and retail outlets will still be permitted to distribute the single-use plastic products until Dec. 20, 2023. They will, however, have to make do with the current level of stock as the production of these products in Canada and their importation will be prohibited going forward. Once plastic stocks run out, they will have to use the sustainable option only.
“Groceries tend to be the highest volume of check stand bags distributed into the community, and so on the plastic bag front I think there’s lots of actions are being taken,” he said. In an emailed statement last week, the grocer said it was already beginning to make the transition away from the sale and distribution of single-use plastics.
