The BYD Shark 6, an electrified pickup truck with over 1,000km of range, is coming to the Philippines. Homologation papers released by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) reveal details about the Shark 6 Premium variant, including its power output, dimensions, and suspension system. The truck is classified as a plug-in hybrid with four-wheel drive and a combined power output of 430hp.
It’s no secret that the BYD Shark 6 is coming to the Philippines . The Chinese automaker isn’t exactly keeping it a secret, with a couple of teasers out on social media already. So, what can we expect from it? The Land Transportation Office recently published the homologation papers for the Shark 6 , and it makes for some interesting reading.Angkas CEO issues formal apology after riders cause traffic jamAt the time of writing, it seems that only one variant will be offered.
Power is listed at 150kw or about 201hp. Looking at the Shark 6’s specs abroad, it looks like the power output was based on the rear motor. Curiously, this pickup only comes with four-wheel drive, at least based on models offered worldwide. It’s either the Philippine model will be two-wheel drive only or the LTO didn’t list down the total system output. The Shark 6 uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter turbo engine that solely serves as the generator for the two electric motors.
Other notes worth mentioning? The LTO listed ground clearance at 230mm, along with dimensions of 5,457mm long, 1,925mm tall, and 1,971mm wide. It also carries an empty weight of 2,710kg. Well, electric motors and batteries aren’t exactly light. Lastly, it rides on independent rear suspension instead of the usual live axle with leaf springs. It will be interesting to see if the Shark 6 will be able to carry 1,000kg even with the car-like suspension arrangement.
