Exhausted crews across Queensland and New South Wales have faced another gruelling night as more than 120 bushfires continued to burn across the eastern states.

Exhausted firefighting crews across Queensland and New South Wales have faced another gruelling night as more than 120 blazes continue to burn across the eastern states.

One of those homes belonged to Tara local Stephanie Joels, who evacuated from her property last Tuesday alongside her mother and two daughters. "We were fortunate it was only houses and properties that were impacted. It could have just as easily been lives."The focus for crews today is the Dalveen fires near Warwick in south-west Queensland, as well as the Herberton and Watsonville fires in the far north.

The town of Tenterfield in the state's north was "literally surrounded by fires" yesterday, according to NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Rob Rogers, but none of them reached the town."I think it's remarkable that we haven't had any reports of serious injury or loss of life. It was as bad as it gets."A community meeting was held in the regional town centre overnight.

"For some of the areas that had already been burnt, typically we use those fires as fallback lines or a place to steer the fire, but unfortunately some of the areas that were burnt earlier this year weren't reliable and weren't holding up" he said.
