'We look forward to serving more of our customers in the Burnaby community.'

The liquor distribution branch's second local shop, which is the largest between the two, was available to serve customers as of Thursday at the Brentwood shopping centre.

"This is the second government-run, non-medical cannabis store to open in Burnaby and the fifth to open in Metro Vancouver after Port Coquitlam, New Westminster and North Vancouver," spokesperson Kevin Satterfield said in a news release. The store, located at 2-4615 Lougheed Hwy., will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and most statutory holidays.

The liquor distribution branch says the store will have seven full-time employees as well as 10 to 12 auxiliary employees. "Staff are committed to keeping cannabis out of the hands of youth and will employ a strict two-ID check for people who look under 30, which ensures only those over the age of 19 enter the premises," the news release added. Burnaby's regulations allow one government store in each of the city's four town centres: Metrotown, Edmonds, Lougheed and Brentwood.
