Gold, silver and bronze came home from the 2023 Ma Murray Community News Media Awards.
Staff from the Burnaby NOW and New Westminster Record newsroom came home with a big haul of hardware from the 2023 Ma Murray Community News Media Awards.
The awards were presented in a Zoomcast last night , and staff from the combined Now/Record newsroom took home seven awards. Video-journalist and reporter Abhinaya Natesh, who joined the NOW and Record last year, claimed three awards. She was a double winner in the Multimedia Feature Story category, claiming gold for her feature on the beauty of cricket featuring Burnaby’s IndCan cricket club, followed up with a bronze for her Record article on the world-renowned Indian classical arts couple Cassius Khan and Amika Kushwaha and their Mushtari Begum Festival.
Burnaby NOW reporter Lauren Vanderdeen also claimed a silver award in Portrait/Personality Photo, for her shot of Burnaby high schooler Casey Lo who won the city’s youth environmental award for her leadership in community gardens.
