PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have fielded their strongest possible team in their bid to reach the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup, which will be held in Suzhou, China from May 14-21.
A combination of Badminton Association of Malaysia and independent players were called up to form a strong squad for the championship.World No. 4 Lee Zii Jia and Ng Tze Yong are listed in the men’s singles while the women’s singles are world No. 33 Goh Jin Wei and K. Letshanaa .
BAM have named four pairs of mixed doubles, which are world No. 8 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing , newly-crowned Orleans Masters champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Hoo Pang Ron-Teoh Mei Xing .High performance director Dr. Tim Jones said they decided to name four mixed doubles pairs in order to give everyone a chance to step up.
“We want to be flexible as well, if we decide to use any scratch pair, we have the opportunity as well.” Jones believes that former national stars Ong Ewe Hock and Roslin Hashim will play a significant role for the team in China.“We get them to China, continue training and we will make decisions from there.
