Police say the puppy was returned to its owner in good health

On July 18, 2024, shortly after 6:15 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to multiple traffic complaints of a possible impaired driver that was operating a pick-up truck and driving erratically and was unable to maintain its lane and speed on Highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake.

Members of the public reported the suspect vehicle had stopped on the Highway, did a burn out and had almost ditched the pick-up truck several times. Shortly after 6:45 p.m., police located the parked pick-up truck on Highway 108 near Depot Lake. Police spoke to the driver and determined alcohol had been consumed. A subsequent arrest was made, and the driver was transported to Blind River detachment for further testing. While at detachment the driver refused to provide a breath sample.

Police received another call for service related to the driver who earlier had stolen a puppy and several bottles of alcoholic beverages from this complainant's residence. Once the driver was processed the puppy was returned to the owner in good health. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Aug. 14, 2024.

The pick-up truck was towed and impounded for seven days with the driver being issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.
