The deal is Brookfield’s first renewable energy acquisition and will supplement the private equity giant’s bid for Origin Energy.

“The Moonlight Range Wind Farm will be the first of many renewable power projects for Brookfield in Australia as we expand our presence in this market. Approximately 8 GW of coal fired power generation capacity is expected to come offline by 2030 – this generation needs to be replaced with new sources of clean energy,” said Luke Edwards, Brookfield managing director and head of renewable power and transition in Australia.

Should Brookfield acquire the remaining Greenleaf pipeline, it will have secured 1GW of capacity to supplement Origin’s own pipeline.offshore wind projects in Victoria and NSW In the first three months of 2023, onshore wind capacity grew only 5 per cent year-on-year, well behind the 20 per cent annual growth enjoyed by solar.
