The wait to see outside linebacker Randy Gregory run through his first Broncos practice is expected to continue through the end of this month’s offseason program.
Gregory had knee surgery in January and, after he joined the Broncos in mid-March, a shoulder operation. But during the practice sessions which have been open to the media, Gregory is a regular observer and earned praise this week for how he is fitting in with his new teammates.
Gregory is the veteran of the edge rusher group, both in age and regular-season games . Bradley Chubb and Malik Reed are both 25 and have played in 41 and 45 games, respectively. Baron Browning and Jonathon Cooper are both in their second year and Nik Bonitto is a rookie. “I ask ‘RG’ a lot of questions and he breaks things down,” Browning said. “He breaks things down — small things, whether it’s the set of the offensive tackle or if I could have taken a better approach. I have even gotten with him after practice just to pick his brain 1-on-1. I definitely enjoy having him around and learning from him. He has a lot of knowledge in him that you can learn from.
“Basically, we were really trying to get into field goal range,” he said. “The corner was in press , which I thought was weird, so I said, ‘I have to beat him over the top,’ and once I got over him, I just had to get past the safety. Once I got past the safety, I had to locate the football.”
