On Monday, Premier Steven Miles told MPs returning for the second-last week of parliament that they had until the end of this week to decide whether they would recontest the October election.At least one has now taken him up on the deadline. Speaker and Cairns-region based Mulgrave Labor MP, Curtis Pitt, has announced he will not recontest his seat in October.
He faced pressure to step away last year amid health concerns, and told News Corp today he had “given all I can” to the job and the community, but it was “now time for me to give all I can to the people closest to me, and that’s my family and my loved ones”.
