Minister for Emergency Management Murray Watt has told ABC Radio National the number of natural disasters and costs associated with tackling them are “rising exponentially”.Speaking on ABC Radio National, the Queensland senator said climate change means Australia will be experiencing an increase in extreme weather events.
“While we are investing more in resilience, obviously we also need to make sure that we’re responding to communities when those disasters occur.”Asked if the government will have to make decisions to not respond to climate disasters in future when they become more regular, Watt said it would be unlikely.“I can’t really see a situation in which an Australian government decides to turn its back on Australians.
