Police have revealed the 26-year-old"ranting" driver who allegedly ploughed into pedestrians before crashing into two other vehicles in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday night has no criminal history.

It then sped up along the Bourke Street tram line and drove a few metres down before T-boning a Hyundai and crashing into a Mazda where the road meets Russell Street. A 37-year-old man and his 30-year-old passenger who were travelling in the Mazda – which was an Uber rideshare vehicle - were transported to hospital with minor seatbelt injuries.

Police have not revealed exactly what he uttered, but Chief Comm. Patton said police have ruled out any links to terrorism.“He’s a 26-year-old from Melton West. He has no prior criminal history, he’s not on bail and he in effect has ‘clean skin’ a term used by Victoria Police who has not had police involvement," he told reporters.
