Kleibrink’s rink out of the Glencoe Club in Calgary features third Chris Kennedy, second Evan van Amsterdam and lead Tyler van Amsterdam. They opened the 12-team provincial event with a steal of two in the first, another steal in the third and then a three-ender in the fifth to take control of the contest. “Maybe that was my parents knowing that I should participate in some other sports first, so I was a baseball, hockey guy,” Kleibrink said. “Then when I was 15 or 16, I took up curling really hard and every other sport dropped off. “I grew up in a curling rink and I watched them play a ton,” Kleibrink said. “It’s really good, they mold your brain from the very start.

“We’ve been together for one year — we formed a new team and I’m definitely excited to be with them,” Kleibrink said. “I think we’re learning still, playing against guys who have played for 30 years, but it’s been really good so far. We brought in Chelsea to coach and she’s a two-time Canadian champ and she should give us even more experience, which is good.”

“In those really big games, in the qualifying tour events, we’re not beating some of those well-established teams, who have some really good older players.”Article content
