KOTA KINABALU: Firefighters rushed to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here after a chemical spill was reported inside a cargo aircraft.
The Fire and Rescue Department's hazardous materials team inspected the area and tested the chemical spill, which was confirmed to be vinyl ester resin.
The department said they received the emergency call at 3.22pm on Wednesday alerting them to the situation. "A Material Safety Data Sheet was ascertained for the chemical product, where about four litres was estimated to have spilled. "The hazmat unit advised Malaysia Airlines staff and engineers to conduct a clean-up of the spillage.
"After ensuring there was no more risk, the operation ended at 3.58pm," said a Fire and Rescue spokesman.
