Scott Boland claimed three wickets in his first over on Saturday as Australia powered towards a 2-0 series victory over the West Indies in Adelaide. | By Malcolm Conn

Scott Boland has enhanced his specular reputation as a second innings destroyer by demolishing the West Indies’ top order as Australia heads for victory in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval.

Sunday’s stage is set for ageless off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who took 3-57 in the West Indies first innings and is one wicket away from becoming just the eighth bowler in history and third Australian to claim 450 Test wickets. After his first over on Saturday night, Boland had the remarkable second innings figures of 15 wickets at an average of 3.67 in his fourth Test. Overall his career figures to that point were 21 wickets at 9.57.Like Melbourne last year, Boland was playing only because of injury, this time to captain Pat Cummins.

Another modest score from David Warner raises questions about how the drawn out process around a review of his lifetime leadership ban is impacting his cricket.
