Last year, Halls Creek Shire and the WA government spruiked the town's new BMX track as an exciting way to engage troubled youth. Now residents are asking why it's overgrown with weeds and practically unusable.
A BMX track built last year in Halls Creek to steer children away from youth crime is now overgrown with weeds, angering residents. The shire says it will fix the "temporary" track in the coming weeks and is seeking funding for a permanent sealed track.
Mr Bin Busu said that would have been crucial given many children in Halls Creek were from disadvantaged backgrounds. The shire said it fell into disrepair due to "usage, weed emergence, and heavy rains over the wet season". The department said its role was to build a temporary track, consult with the community, and provide costed designs for a permanent sealed track to the shire.
