Blue Jays look to gain from pain free George Springer Via longleysunsport
Bolstered and fully recovered from surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow back in October, Springer has reported to spring training ready to punt from his memory a 2022 season that for months was excruciating to navigate.
And no doubt as relieved as his employer and teammates who know he is one of the most dangerous leadoff hitters in the major leagues. “In a perfect world, he probably would have had in the middle of the season,” Schneider said. “But to his credit, he just wanted to grind it out. He understood where we were in the standings. That’s the kind of guy he is, the kind of teammate he is.Springer’s time with the Jays has been an adventure in that regard.
“When he is fully healthy, he is a definite game changer,” Schneider said. “Our job is to try to keep him fully healthy as much as we can. While Springer is a resilient personality – both physically and mentally – it’s tough to imagine a season ending with more of a thud than last year’s did. There was the lingering injury that was exacerbated by a concussion that resulted with the head-on collision with Bo Bichette in the Rogers Centre outfield to accelerate the wildcard loss and elimination to the Mariners.
