have acquired second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield from the Kansas City Royals.
Merrifield, 33, was an all-star for the second time last season, leading the majors with 42 doubles and the American League with 40 stolen bases. He was unable to travel to Toronto to face the Blue Jays in July due to his vaccination status. Headed back to Kansas City are prospect Samad Taylor and right-hander Max Castillo. Taylor, 24, was the Jays’ No. 16 ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. The second baseman was playing with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Castillo, 24, appeared in nine games for the Jays this season, starting in two of them, and had a 3.05 ERA.
