Jonny Bairstow was left outraged with his dismissal at Lord's despite telling Travis Head he would have no issues stumping him in the same fashion a week earlier during the Edgbaston Test.
Bairstow was given out in the fourth innings of the second Ashes Test when wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw the stumps down after the Englishman strolled out of his crease believing the over had been called.
“I sort of reminded Jonny last week I walked out of my crease at Edgbaston at the end of an over and the ball got whipped in and I quickly whipped my bat back,” he told the Willow Talk podcast. Bairstow stumped a player in the County Championship in 2014 where he held the ball above the stumps waiting for the batter to lift his foot before taking the bails.
The wicket has dominated the coverage of the Ashes since the Lord’s Test with the two nations clearly tied to their team's perspective. "They would have had to have a real think around the spirit of the game and would I want to potentially win a game with something like that happening and it would be, no."
