A multi-instrumentalist, Alan plays piano, guitars , fiddle, button accordion, and is a vocalist and composer. His career spans more than 40 years and is rich in modern music history. Born in Chicago, he credits his uncle who encouraged his musical tastes and took him at a very young age to the downtown blues bars of the Windy City. At the age of 15 he won a songwriting contest that led to two original songs being recorded at the legendary Chess Studio.
“That was a real life lesson in the fickle nature of the music business,” Gerber says. The dichotomy was not lost on his young self - he has achieved great accolades, but most importantly, never stopped having fun. Gerber’s show is grounded in the blues, but has Appalachian style fiddling, slide guitar and gospel boogie woogie on the piano thrown in.
Distinctive, retro-influenced roots music for fans of blues and folk. Dynamic, audience-centered live experience.
