'Bizarre': Mom, kid narrowly missed by massive metal beam that impaled their windshield on Ironworkers Memorial Bridge
“Police believe a truck heading over the bridge to North Vancouver lost part of its load around 2 p.m. , dropping a massive metal beam onto the bridge deck,” said Sgt. Steve Addison.Start your day with a roundup of B.C.-focused news and opinion delivered straight to your inbox at 7 a.m., Monday to Friday.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
Addison called it “a bizarre chain of events” and said “it’s a miracle nobody was killed or seriously injured.“We think the driver of the truck likely had no idea what happened, and continued on to the North Shore.”Addison said officers took the mother and her child home while crash investigators are working to identify the truck driver.
Anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage on the bridge between 1:50 and 2 p.m. Friday is asked to call 604-717-3012.
