Subcompact crossover, not-so-subcompact grille
The BMW iX2 has finally made its regional debut at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show. Potential buyers in our home market might be in luck, too—because if BMW Philippines’ actions earlier this year are any indication, they might not have to wait long before they can get their hands on this.
Design-wise, the iX2 is noticeably larger than its predecessor. This is most apparent when it comes to length, where it has a 194mm advantage over the previous-gen version. For better or for worse, the grille’s gained some real estate as well. Despite having larger dimensions all over, however, the vehicle still manages to retain a sporty and compact demeanor thanks to its aggressive headlights, tapered roofline, robust 20-inch wheels, and a nice mix of bold and minimalist character lines.
Inside the vehicle, you’ll find a nice combination of futuristic components and contrasting colorways. The dashboard is adorned with a massive new curved display that serves as both the infotainment system and instrument cluster. A patterned trim on the dash adds a bit of playfulness to the cabin, while sleek A/C vents and edgy ergonomic seats give the whole look a relatively sporty vibe. The meat of this release is in what’s powering it, though. It runs on a 64.
No official word of an upcoming release in the Philippines yet. Again, though, we’re willing to bet that a local launch is a matter of ‘if’ and not ‘when.’ Given the chance, would you but the iX2 or go for the larger and more powerful iX3?
