Already a subscriber?The free technology education outfit championed by billionaire businessman Richard White, Grok Academy, is in disarray, laying off staff and losing almost half of its board after it failed to get approval to become a tax-deductible charity.
“Over the past few months, Grok Academy has faced financial challenges while awaiting our deductible gift recipient status,” a Grok spokesman said.“Despite these difficulties, we remain committed to empowering our team to support schools, students and teachers through our e-learning platform and other initiatives, including professional development for educators.”
, said he wanted to bring his experience growing businesses to expand Grok Academy, which until his investment had been funded through a paid subscription model. The Grok Academy accounts also show that an agreement struck in 2022 to roll out its computing programs to the University of NSW had been “delayed due to unforeseen circumstances”, which had also affected funding.
