Bertam Smart City expected to reduce 69.7% of carbon emissions

BUTTERWORTH: The state government's project to transform the city of Bertam into a smart energy city, is expected to have the potential to reduce energy and carbon emissions by 69.7%.

Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman said Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia through the Solar Energy Research Institute and UKM Pakarunding in collaboration with Jinko Solar Technology Sdn Bhd has made strides in developing this smart energy city.

Ahmad Zakiyuddin said this project was officially completed today after being delayed for almost three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. "The total size of the Solar PV system that has been installed is 41 kilowatts peak , capable of generating 57,400-kilowatt hours of solar energy per year and reducing carbon emission by 835 tonnes of CO2 per year,” he said.
