Benedict XVI was 'a man of conviction,' Montreal archbishop says

The pope emeritus died on Saturday at the age of 95, nine years after his resignation.

Lépine added he did not know the pope well, but had met him a few times in Rome, including when Benedict XVI appointed him archbishop of Montreal in 2012. “He was an accomplished theologian and scholar, and he was an inspiration to millions,” Trudeau said. “My thoughts are with Catholics and all those in mourning.”
