Belleville police responded to 68 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on June 20, 2023 to 5 a.m. on June 21, 2023.Despite being a relatively quiet 24-hour reporting period, Belleville Police Service still received nineteen 911 hang-up calls in the 24 hours. Each call continues to tie up police resources as each call must be investigated to ensure the caller is not in need of emergency services.

The majority of the 911 hang-up calls were “pocket dials.” The simplest method to prevent pocket dials is to ensure your smartphone’s home screen is locked. Police are also reminding people to ensure any 911 autodial feature on their phone is turned off.
