Bell's announcement on Feb. 8 that it's cutting 4,800 jobs across Canada—the largest round of layoffs in nearly 30 years that will see the end of multiple shows, some of which have been on the air for decades, as well as the sale of dozens of radio stations throughout the country—is another major blow to the media industry.
'The cuts at Bell Media hit @CTVNationalNews hard this week. … We keep hearing about the cost of news—I want you to hear about the value. We've lost passionate journalists who put their heart and should into their work,' Trinh tweeted on X. 'Our intrinsic value is more than that. As TV news show fade to black & ratio stations close—there will be fewer journalists telling the stories that help us understand each other and the world.
