The sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice takes viewers on a twisty adventure through the Neitherworld, leading to a hilarious ending with deeply emotional messages. Since the ending of Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz has become an onscreen psychic, has a child named Astrid, and is in a relationship with her manager, Rory. The psychic is forced to confront her past when the Deetz family gathers to mourn the passing of Charles. When Rory proposes at the wake, Astrid gets on her bike and rides away in a rage.

Luckily, Lydia gets to Astrid right in time, pulling her off the train. Meanwhile, the ghost with the most impersonates a worker to fake stamp Jeremy’s passport, making Astrid’s life force revert to her. Rubbing the salt in the wound, Betelgeuse drops the teenage ghost into a fiery pit, seemingly ending his existence. Unfortunately, the rescue of Astrid comes at a cost, with the titular ghost trying to enforce Lydia’s promise to marry him.

Before the start of the Beetlejuice sequel, Lydia refused to talk to Astrid about Richard’s death, which could have belayed Astrid’s ability to grieve. When she goes to the Maitland House, she finds a box of his possessions and starts talking to her mom about her dad, though. This, in combination with Charles Deetz’s passing at the start of Beetlejuice 2, could have started her in the grieving process, causing her to meet the second criterion.

Delia's Fate & Reunion With Charles Explained When Charles dies in the Beetlejuice sequel, Delia shows her grief in strange ways, including creating an art installation, screaming for a camera, and purchasing asps. Though she thinks the asps are defanged, they bite her, killing her. Though she displays them in unconventional ways, her emotions and grief feel genuine.
