This week, the NT Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade was notified after a Top End beekeeper's routine testing of honey returned a positive result for the disease. American foulbrood cannot be treated, and the only way to stop its spread is by destroying infected hives.There are about 12 commercial bee keepers in the Top End with a total of 6,500 hives.
