This was an increase from the last report on Aug. 11 that showed 34,542 tickets had been sold so far. It also represents an increase of 1,990 passengers who had booked compared to the same time period last year. “U.S. resident trips to Canada by automobile, a leading indicator of travel, tracked monthly by Statistics Canada, continues to recover yet remains approximately 20 per cent below pre-pandemic levels,” Bay Ferries says in a media release.
“This is a service that relies heavily on discretionary tourism travel and … that’s greatly affected by weather conditions,” says Bay Ferries senior vice-president Mark Wilson.“It appears our numbers continuingly grow as we re-introduce the service,” said Wilson on Sept. 13. “Bay Ferries has always stated that it will take some time to rebuild those numbers.”
