Base prices, licensing issues in courier industry need examining

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil says base prices and licensing issues in the courier industry need to be examined to ensure the sector is competitive and does not negatively affect consumers and workers’ incomes. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 4, 2023.

Fahmi said he would meet with the Association of Malaysian Express Carriers and the chief executive officers of courier companies to get their views and gather data to be included in Budget 2024. “Currently, the cost-of-living issue is pressing, so decisions that we make must take into account the industry’s sustainability and not burden the consumers. It must go hand-in-hand with how the industry is coordinated and managed,” he said after launching Courier Industry Appreciation Day today.

He said the courier industry is essential as it provides job opportunities to more than 160,000 people, in addition to 100,000 workers involved in the p-hailing services.
