Six airports in Mindanao will be under the management of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Thursday.

In a statement, the CAAP said it transferred the management of Awang Airport in Maguindanao del Norte, Wao and Malabang Airport in Lanao del Sur, Sanga-Sanga Airport and Mapun Airstrip in Tawi-Tawi, and Jolo Airport in Sulu to the BARMM Ministry of Transportation and Communications in a ceremony on Wednesday.

The turnover ceremony was joined by CAAP Intelligence and Investigation Division Acting Chief BGen. Dionisio Robles and BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim. It can be recalled that the two agencies signed a memorandum of agreement in September 2022, transferring the assets and functions of CAAP to the BARMM MOTC in line with the implementation of Bangsamoro Organic Law which establishes the institution of the BARMM.

With the turnover, the BARMM MOTC will facilitate the land side management of the airport including the operation and management of its passenger terminal building, administrative building, and vehicular parking area while the CAAP will retain the air side management and control at the airport.
