The House of Representatives has approved a bill to reschedule the first regular elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to May 2026, following the Supreme Court's decision to remove Sulu from the region.

The House of Representatives has passed a bill to postpone the first regular elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ( BARMM ) to May 2026. This comes after the Supreme Court 's decision to exclude Sulu from the region, creating a legal vacuum regarding the BARMM parliament's composition and elections. The bill proposes holding the first BARMM polls on the second Monday of May 2026, with subsequent elections every three years.

If the Senate approves and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signs the measure, it will be the second postponement of BARMM elections. The original Bangsamoro Organic Law (RA 11054) stipulated the first election in 2022, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new bill also deems the current Bangsamoro Transition Authority members' term expired and grants the President the power to appoint 80 new BTA members
